Safer WLAN Day am 11.03.2019. Neue Profile benötigt!

It is most likely that you won't be able to connect to eduroam with your RZ Account after/from March 11th 2019.

On this day or after this day you have to renew your configuration for eduroam on your wifi device.
The new profiles/installers install a new root certificate (if necessary) and a new configuration for your device. The new configuration uses the new root certificate and the new server name.

There is no need for a new device registration, a password change or something similar....

Please remove potentially existing former profiles for eduroam in the wifi settings of your device and install the profile suitable for your operating system and device
on your smartphone, tablet, notebook etc..

You can find the new configuration profiles at the day of March 11th 2019 HERE

Attention: The new profiles and installers are only applicable from March 11th 2019 onwards. If you install them earlier, you won't be able to connect to eduroam either.

Background information

On July 9th 2019 expires the so-called Deutsche Telekom Root CA 2.

The Deutsche Telekom Root CA 2 is the so-called root certificate for the Uni Regensburg CA and therefore also the root for all certificates issued from the Uni Regensburg CA.
The so-called chain of trust:
Deutsche Telekom Root CA
→ DFN Verein PCA Global G01
     → Uni Regensburg CA G01
→ certificates issued from the Uni Regensburg CA for the University of Regensburg

changes to a new chain of trust:

T-TeleSec Global Root Class 2
   → DFN-Verein Certification Authority 2
     → DFN-Verein Global Issuing CA
→ certificates issued from the DFN-Verein Global Issuing CA for the University of Regensburg
.

This means, that before July 9th 2019, the University of Regensburg has to change all the certifictaes issued within the old chain of trust.

The servers responsible for the authentication for the wifi network eduroam are also affected by this circumstance.

Further information about the certificates you can find at https://pki.uni-regensburg.de/zertifikate

The big bang: Monday, March 11th 2019

On Monday, March 11th 2019, the servers responsible for the authentication for the wifi network eduroam, receive their new certificate.

The new certificate will use the
T-TeleSec Global Root Class 2 as root certificate in its chain
and the name of the server you can trust to receive your RZ Account and your RZ Passwort, changes from
radius1.uni-regensburg.de and radius2.uni-regensburg.de
to
radius.uni-regensburg.de.

Consequences

Every wifi device ...

  • that uses eduroam at the campus site, at the clinic site or on the road and
  • uses a login name from the University of Regensburg = RZ Account for login and
  • has a so-called secure configuration (more about that you can find here)

will not be able to connect to the wifi network eduroam starting Monday, March 11th 2019, because the device's configuration

  • uses the old root certificate and
  • expects other server names.

What you have to do...

The new profiles/installers install a new root certificate (if necessary) and a new configuration for your device. The new configuration uses the new root certificate and the new server name.
